INSET - Let's Do Poetry In Primary Schools!

Do you want to feel inspired about writing with your class?

Do you want to put the fun and creativity back into writing?

Do you want plenty of exciing and innovative literacy activities to use in your current topic?

Based on James Carter's award-winning resource book, Let's Do Poetry In Primary Schools! (Bloomsbury), this is an engaging and very practical course to give teachers the tools, the skills, the mindset and the confidence to put poetry at the heart of the classroom and everyday learning. Let's Do Poetry… has an emphasis on writing - and provides teachers with games and warm-ups, as well as a wide range of ideas for cross-curricular activities. Ultimately, the course demonstrates that all it takes is six or so poetic forms with which to create language-rich and expressive responses to all the topic work that Primary schools cover throughout the academic year. NB - performance poetry as well as story/fiction writing INSET workshops are also available.

Let's Do Poetry… is a wholly relevant, dynamic and enjoyable INSET course designed for the modern Primary teacher, from Foundation to Upper Key Stage 2, and can be delivered as either a half-day or one-day course. Let's Do Poetry… reinforces the fact that time spent working on poetry will also help to develop children's prose writing skills, deepen their understanding of the written word and further help them to become competent, confident and creative language users.

A former lecturer in Creative Writing at Reading University, James has worked as a writer-in-residence in numerous Primary schools, and has provided INSET in schools and universities all over the UK and Europe.

Ideal for either single schools or one host school inviting partnership schools, with up to 100 teachers attending.

The best INSET I've ever been to!

Inspirational and very informative. IT WAS GREAT!

Excellent, practical ideas that could easily be adapted for a range of ages and topics.

Fantastic INSET - will be using a lot of what was demonstrated!
